Talethia Edwards is a local community activist. She joins us to lead a discussion on how race, gender and inequity are interlocked in the social constructs of our society. In addition to focusing on the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement, she'll also discuss #sayhername, an initiative to bring awareness to female victims of police brutality and anti-black violence. She will also discuss how as a sisterhood of women, we can together be on the front line of this important movement to bring about a better and more just society for all.
#SayHerName is a social movement that seeks to raise awareness for black female victims of police brutality and anti-black violence in the United States. #SayHerName aims to change the public perception that victims of police brutality and anti-Black violence are predominantly male by highlighting the gender-specific ways in which black women are disproportionately affected by fatal acts of racial injustice.
